Adrien Fourmaux showed his teeth once again in WRC Paraguay. On SS15, the Hyundai driver set another fastest time, cutting the gap to a podium place to just 16 seconds behind Elfyn Evans, who sits third.
Evans, in his Toyota, seemed overwhelmed by Fourmaux's pace. "In a few places I was too careful, but I don't have an answer to that at the moment," he said. Fourmaux, meanwhile, was pleased with his performance: "I'm happy with how I've managed the afternoon. I need to take back three seconds per stage. So far, it has been more or less like that. I'm pushing."
But the top of the standings remains with Sami Pajari. The Finnish Toyota driver still leads with a 27.6-second advantage over Hyundai's Hayden Paddon. Pajari admitted it was hard to judge his pace: "The tyres are fine. It's really difficult to judge the pace. Maybe I should have pushed a little harder."
Behind, the fight for fifth is heating up. Josh McErlean of M-Sport Ford is still on course for fifth, despite his deficit to the leader growing to nearly three and a half minutes. However, Oliver Solberg, who had problems on Friday, is closing rapidly, now only 13.5 seconds behind McErlean.
Meanwhile, home driver Diego Dominguez leads WRC2 and sits seventh overall. Britain's Gus Greensmith holds second in the category, 27.2 seconds adrift of Dominguez. Two more special stages will be contested in Paraguay on Saturday, with the rally concluding on Sunday.
