FIA has introduced further changes to the Formula 1 regulations ahead of the 2026 Miami Grand Prix, placing a strong emphasis on safety in wet-weather conditions. The most notable update is a complete ban on boost mode usage during rain-affected sessions, removing access to the additional 350kW power increase previously available to drivers.
The decision follows feedback from drivers regarding the aggressive torque delivery of current hybrid power units, which has proven difficult to manage in low-grip environments. By eliminating boost deployment in wet conditions, the governing body aims to improve traction control and reduce the likelihood of instability under acceleration.
Under the revised rules, power delivery will rely entirely on pre-configured engine maps, without manual boost intervention. This fundamentally changes overtaking dynamics in wet races, shifting the emphasis toward mechanical grip, aerodynamic efficiency, and energy management rather than short-term power advantages.

In addition, the FIA has tightened restrictions on the Driver Adjustable Bodywork system, commonly referred to as active aerodynamics. The updated regulation allows only partial activation of straight-line modes in designated low-grip zones, limiting teams’ ability to significantly reduce drag when attempting overtakes in wet conditions.
These measures complement previously announced updates, including higher tyre blanket temperatures for intermediate compounds and revised battery deployment curves. The objective is to enhance initial tyre grip and provide more predictable vehicle behaviour during transitional track conditions.
The timing of these changes is particularly relevant given weather forecasts for Miami, which indicate a strong احتمال of rain on race day. Tropical conditions and elevated humidity levels increase the likelihood of localized showers that could impact running at the Miami International Autodrome.
Local safety protocols regarding lightning add further complexity, as any detected thunderstorm activity would require an immediate suspension of on-track sessions. Within this context, the FIA’s regulatory adjustments underline its ongoing effort to balance competitive racing with safety requirements in challenging environmental conditions.
