Red Bull Racing is still deemed to have the best engine after Formula 1's second ADUO (Additional Upgrades and Opportunities) assessment, released by the FIA on Thursday. The analysis covers all races from the season-opening Australian Grand Prix to the Hungarian Grand Prix, confirming that the Red Bull-Ford internal combustion engine is the most powerful on the grid.
According to the findings, Mercedes is 2-4% down on power, while Audi, Ferrari, and Honda are more than 4% adrift. However, Honda's new powertrain, introduced at the Dutch Grand Prix, was not taken into account in this period.
After the first quarter of the season, Mercedes had been granted one additional homologation for 2026 and 2027 each, while Audi, Ferrari, and Honda received two each for this year and next. This consists of additional cost cap allowance and further dyno tests, though no official announcement had been made at the time.
While the FIA did confirm the ADUO ranking today, no additional homologations have been awarded this time. Nikolas Tombazis, FIA's director of single-seaters, stated that the analysis is incredibly robust based on the quality of data, while respecting the confidentiality and intellectual property of teams and power unit manufacturers.
“This is the first year of ADUO, so naturally there are areas which we may evolve over time, in discussion with all the PU manufacturers,” said Tombazis. This decision will have implications for long-term engine development strategies, especially with the new regulations coming in 2026.
For Red Bull, the benchmark status strengthens their position in the constructors' battle, while rivals like Mercedes and Ferrari must work harder to close the power gap. The next evaluation will be crucial in determining each manufacturer's development direction.
