FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has revealed that extensive consultations regarding the planned return of V8 engines to Formula 1 in 2030 are currently moving forward. Speaking to selected media members, he confirmed that the official technical proposal papers have already been distributed to the teams for thorough review.
The federation's leadership has consistently championed the V8 comeback following widespread discussions surrounding the upcoming 2030 technical landscape. Reports indicate that manufacturers are actively pushing for the prospective V8 formula to incorporate modern turbocharging elements to balance performance and efficiency.
Elaborating on the project, Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasized that the overarching goal is to deliver a much simpler power unit architecture that slashes research and development costs while streamlining the overall manufacturing timeline for engine builders.

"The papers are with the team. Teams are reading them. Team principals, PUMs, power unit manufacturers. A driver has been consulted about it," Mohammed Ben Sulayem stated during a media roundtable as reported by Crash.net.
He further highlighted that simplified regulations will allow for stricter policing of expensive materials, ensuring a level playing field where teams cannot simply outspend rivals for marginal horsepower gains. Alongside cost-efficiency, the return of traditional engine acoustics and lighter car designs remain key priorities for the rule-makers.
Looking ahead, the FIA head anticipates that a formal agreement between the governing body and the stakeholders will be reached within the next few months as they await final feedback from team management and power unit manufacturers.
