Ferrucci Gets Grid Penalty for IndyCar's Washington Race

Santino Ferrucci will start this weekend's IndyCar race on the streets of Washington, D.C. further back on the grid after exceeding his engine change allowance. The grid penalty was announced by IndyCar as a result of the engine change made by his team, AJ Foyt Racing, on the #14 Chevrolet.

The team opted to replace the engine after the race in Markham, forcing Ferrucci to give up six positions on the grid for the Washington event. Six positions is the standard penalty for road and street course events, while nine positions are typically handed out for oval races.

This is not the first time Ferrucci has received an engine penalty this season. He previously lost grid positions at Road America in June. The decision is certainly a blow to Ferrucci, who has been aiming for consistent midfield results.

As of now, no other drivers have been assessed grid penalties. However, if another driver crashes heavily in practice or qualifying, necessitating an engine change, additional penalties could be announced ahead of Sunday's 147-lap race.

With this penalty, Ferrucci's race strategy is sure to change. He will have to work extra hard to fight through traffic in the early laps and reclaim lost positions. This will be a test of his mental resilience and skill on a circuit that demands high precision.
