Fred Vasseur has hinted that Ferrari may now consider implementing team orders, a shift from his previous stance. The team principal indicated he would hold talks with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc following the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Until now, Vasseur had been reluctant to use team orders, often citing how McLaren nearly cost Max Verstappen the F1 drivers' title last year by backing Oscar Piastri too early. But with Hamilton's lead over Leclerc growing to 36 points after the Monegasque's crash, the Frenchman seems open to a change.

The tension boiled over at Monza when the two Ferrari drivers clashed at the first chicane. Hamilton, attempting an inside move, was pushed wide onto the gravel, dropping to tenth. Leclerc later crashed heavily at Curva Alboreto, ending his race.

Vasseur preferred to reserve judgment until speaking with his drivers. "I spoke with Lewis for two seconds, and not at all with Charles, so we have had no time to discuss it," he told media, including RacingNews365. When pressed further, he replied, "No, I prefer to discuss with them first rather than with you first."

Hamilton has been vocal about wanting Ferrari to prioritize his bid for a record-breaking eighth title. However, after finishing sixth at Monza, he trails championship leader Kimi Antonelli by 76 points. The 41-year-old criticized the lack of clear rules of engagement within the team.

"It's far too late for those decisions to come. It's many, many weeks too late," Hamilton said. Vasseur, however, sees it differently, stating that the time to decide is now. "Last year Piastri was leading McLaren at this stage, and if McLaren put everything on Piastri, Max Verstappen would have been champion. But at one stage you have to make a decision. I think it was too early before Monza. Now we have time to discuss with the guys."

This signals a potential strategic shift for Ferrari as the season progresses. The key question is whether Hamilton will receive full backing or if Leclerc remains the team's future focus. Internal discussions in Maranello will be crucial.
