Ferrari Strikes Back: New Floor at Zandvoort, ADUO-2 for Monza

Ferrari is not resting on its laurels. Coming out of the summer break, the Scuderia is gearing up to challenge Mercedes with a fresh package of upgrades. The first target: Zandvoort, followed by Monza with a more powerful engine.

The last five races before the break proved that Mercedes can be beaten. Lewis Hamilton's victory at Barcelona was a turning point, intensifying the battle at the front, not just in media statements but on the track. Ferrari is responding by bringing an evolution of the floor introduced in Barcelona for the SF-26 in the Netherlands.

According to reports, this new floor is expected to provide more downforce and stability, crucial for a fast circuit like Zandvoort. On the engine front, Ferrari is targeting the debut of a new power unit codenamed ADUO-2 at the Italian Grand Prix. This is not just a minor upgrade; it's a new turbocharger linked to the concession system for manufacturers lagging behind. With ADUO-2, Ferrari hopes the engine can hold its power better and deliver stronger acceleration on straights.

This move is clearly to capitalize on the moment. The tifosi at Monza could witness history if Ferrari manages to install the new engine on time. But Ferrari is not stopping there. Another major upgrade package is reportedly in the works for the autumn, likely during the busy American leg of the calendar, which features four races in five weeks.

The competition is heating up. McLaren has already stated that their upgrade in Hungary was just the beginning, with a substantial package planned for Zandvoort. Mercedes, meanwhile, appears more cautious. Toto Wolff has hinted that their development will be more strategic, having saved more resources early in the season and having more leeway under the budget cap.
