Ferrari has confirmed it will retain its innovative “Macarena” rear wing on the SF-26 following a major upgrade package introduced in Miami 2026. Team principal Fred Vasseur confirmed the decision, signalling confidence in a distinctive aerodynamic direction.

The rear wing concept first appeared during Bahrain pre-season testing, featuring a 270-degree rotational mechanism rather than the traditional DRS slot opening. This design enables more dynamic airflow control, particularly in balancing drag reduction and downforce efficiency at high speed.

After limited use in China, where it was removed before racing, Ferrari reintroduced the component in Miami as part of an 11-piece upgrade package. Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton are now running the system in full race configuration, reflecting growing confidence in its performance potential.

"From today, we will keep the ‘Macarena’ rear wing on the car. The initial feeling is positive, but we need full feedback after the weekend."

Technically, the wing has the potential to enhance airflow interaction between the diffuser and beam wing, improving overall aerodynamic efficiency. However, its effectiveness remains sensitive to track conditions, particularly temperature, which influences tyre behaviour and aerodynamic stability.

Vasseur emphasised that the current development phase remains highly dynamic, with teams—including rivals such as Red Bull Racing—pursuing different technical directions. Reports of Red Bull experimenting with a similar concept underline the level of interest in Ferrari’s approach.

"We are still at the beginning of development. Everyone has chosen different directions, and only time will tell if it is the right one."

With a high development rate expected over the coming races, Ferrari aims to consolidate its technical gains before the season stabilises. Retaining the “Macarena” rear wing signals a long-term commitment to this concept, which will be further evaluated in upcoming rounds of the 2026 Formula 1 calendar.
