What promised to be a strong weekend for Fernando Alonso at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez quickly turned into a nightmare during the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix qualifying session. The veteran Spanish driver admitted he was beyond frustrated after another disastrous outing for the Aston Martin squad.
Trouble for the Silverstone-based outfit began as early as Friday's opening practice session. When reserve driver Jak Crawford stepped into the AMR-26, the car ground to a halt on track, serving as an ominous warning of the mechanical gremlins that would plague the garage throughout the weekend.
The technical woes compounded during Saturday's crucial knockout session. The two-time world champion was forced to bow out early in Q1 due to a sudden power unit failure. This bitter setback arrived just hours after a promising pace in practice had briefly sparked hopes of a potential Q3 appearance for the green-liveried machine.

Speaking to media outlets including Motorsport Week after the session, the disgruntled Spaniard made no secret of his mounting exasperation. He explained that starting from the back in a car plagued by reliability and performance limits perfectly summarizes their difficult campaign. Overtaking and following closely will prove an immense challenge during Sunday's main race.
Left with a mountain to climb on race day, the veteran driver reportedly joked about bypassing the grand prix entirely to head straight to the upcoming round in Brazil, capping off a deeply disappointing afternoon in Mexico City.
