Fernando Alonso stands firmly by his previous critical remarks regarding driving standards in Formula 1, emphasizing that numerous incidents at the back of the grid are entirely avoidable.
The controversy follows an opening-lap collision involving Alexander Albon at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, an incident that Aston Martin chief trackside officer Mike Krack confirmed cost the team a considerable amount of downforce.
"When you start at the back, there is always this risk. I think the quality of the drivers in the low third of the grid is very low, as we saw today with Alex," Alonso stated in the media pen after Sunday's race at the Circuit of the Americas.

Although initially made in the heat of the moment, the Aston Martin driver reiterated during media day in Mexico City that he stands by every word and that everyone knows which drivers are being referenced.

Alonso further pointed out how the financial cost cap places an additional burden on teams when unnecessary car damage repeatedly occurs throughout a grueling grand prix season.
