Intense action illuminated the floodlights of the Lusail International Circuit as the premier class kicked off its marquee night race weekend. Riders immediately hit the tarmac to secure crucial automatic Q2 progression spots, delivering high-stakes drama from the opening practice runs.
The headline-grabbing moment of the practice session belonged to Fabio Di Giannantonio, who unleashed a blistering late lap to shatter the official circuit lap record. Right behind him, Marc Marquez demonstrated immense resilience, overcoming an early chain issue and persevering on medium tyres to cement his place near the very top of the timesheets.
Meanwhile, Marco Bezzecchi maintained stellar form throughout both FP1 and the afternoon practice. The Italian rider consistently set the pace during the early time attacks, proving that he is a formidable force at the Middle Eastern venue despite a historically modest track record in Lusail.
With championship implications hanging in the balance, every tenth of a second proved vital as title contenders fought tooth and nail for crucial psychological and numerical advantages. Paddock drama was further heightened by riders managing lingering injuries and substitute competitors adapting quickly to premier class machinery under extreme pressure.
As the dust settles on Friday's action, teams now face a crucial overnight analysis to fine-tune tyre strategies and race pace setups ahead of tomorrow's qualifying showdown.
