F1 2027 Grid: Who's Sealed In, Who's Up in the Air TO NEWS OVERVIEW
Albon and Sainz are staying put at Williams for 2027

The 2026 season has barely started, yet the Formula 1 driver market for 2027 is already heating up. Several teams have locked in their line-ups, while others are still facing big questions ahead of the new technical regulations that will reshape the competitive order.

At the front, McLaren looks the most solid, having secured Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri until the end of 2027 and 2028 respectively. Norris, now the reigning world champion, is the team's cornerstone alongside the consistently impressive Piastri.

Mercedes, on the other hand, is taking a different approach. George Russell and Kimi Antonelli have signed contract extensions for 2026, but the exact length of their deals remains undisclosed. Toto Wolff has confirmed Russell will stay for 2027, while Antonelli could be in line for a bumper new contract if he secures his maiden title this season.

Red Bull is the centre of attention due to the uncertainty surrounding Max Verstappen's future. His contract runs until 2028, but there are clauses that could allow the Dutchman to leave early under certain conditions. Meanwhile, Isack Hadjar, promoted for 2026, has impressed and could be retained.

Ferrari have secured Charles Leclerc with a multi-year contract signed in June 2026, ending speculation about his exit. Lewis Hamilton, who joined in 2025, also has a deal for 2027 after bouncing back from a poor 2025 season. Williams, with Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz, are another team that has already confirmed their driver line-up for next year.

Elsewhere, Fernando Alonso's future remains uncertain as his contract expires at the end of 2026. Lance Stroll effectively has a rolling contract at Aston Martin, but his position could change if Lawrence Stroll decides to look elsewhere. The battle for the remaining seats is expected to be fierce, especially with young talents like Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad only tied until 2026.
