The 2026 Formula 1 season has delivered remarkable performances from Andrea Kimi Antonelli as he dominates the championship with Mercedes. Although the young Italian captured headlines with a stunning charge from 19th on the grid to win the Italian Grand Prix, he surprisingly considers his flawless lights-to-flag victory from pole in Austin to be an even better achievement.
The Mercedes charger was forced into a back-row start at Monza due to a power unit penalty, yet his incredible pace allowed him to scythe through the traffic and secure a memorable victory. That triumph marked his seventh win of a stellar campaign, setting the stage for further success.
Following an eighth victory in Madrid, Antonelli secured his ninth win of the year in Austin by executing a brilliant one-stop strategy while rival frontrunners opted for two stops. He ultimately crossed the finish line 13 seconds ahead of runner-up Charles Leclerc.

Reflecting on the contrasting victories, Antonelli explained that Monza relied heavily on pure car speed and straightforward overtaking opportunities. "Monza, we clearly had the fastest car. We were just super quick, so of course it was incredibly special coming from the back," he stated.
However, he emphasized that the American weekend represented a higher standard of overall execution. "But this one probably, in terms of execution, was better, because the way we built up and the way we built the performance throughout the weekend was very good," Antonelli concluded.

This supreme level of consistency leaves Antonelli with a commanding 123-point advantage in the drivers' standings, needing just two points at the upcoming Mexican Grand Prix to seal his maiden world championship.
