Martins Sesks successfully secured a sensational victory in the European Rally Championship season finale in Portugal after his main rival suffered dramatic technical trouble. A fierce battle across the gravel stages provided world-class entertainment for motorsport enthusiasts worldwide.

The rally was initially controlled by Martins Sesks who drove Ford machinery earlier in the year. However, disaster struck during Sunday morning's loop when a broken damper severely damaged his car, dropping him down to second place behind Finnish driver Roope Korhonen.

The tension reached its peak on the final loop when it was Roope Korhonen's turn to encounter severe technical issues in his Toyota. The mechanical failure plummeted the Finnish driver from the lead all the way down to third place overall.

"It was quite a crazy rally and all sorts of things happened. But we showed good pace throughout. We won qualifying, we were fastest yesterday and right on the limit this morning. A huge thank you to the team for keeping the car in one piece. We did it," said Martins Sesks, who competed in a Skoda.

The sentiment was shared by the rival camp as they accepted the bitter pill near the finish line. "What can you say? We had fantastic pace, but this is a huge shame. Everything was going well before the problem. But this is part of rallying," Roope Korhonen stated.

This misfortune allowed Martins Sesks to claim the rally win by a commanding margin. Meanwhile, young French driver Pablo Sarrazin surprisingly secured a stellar second-place finish behind the winner aboard his Lancia.

"Unbelievable. A huge thank you to the team and the French motorsport federation for making it possible for us to come here. My father has always pushed me as well. The team did an amazing job and my co-driver Yannick Roche is surely one of the best. We were lucky. I am only 20 years old, so there is certainly a lot of work ahead, but we are on the right track," Pablo Sarrazin remarked.

Looking at the championship standings, Teemu Suninen had already sealed the European title and did not compete in the Portugal season finale. The ERC runner-up spot ultimately went to Poland's Miko Marczyk after finishing eighth, edging out Andrea Mabellini by a mere five points.

The top ten points were rounded out by Jan Solans in fourth and Simone Tempestini in fifth. Further down the order, Arthur Pelamourgues, Armindo Araujo, Pedro Almeida, and Leo Rossel completed the points-paying positions.
