Ernesto Rivera certainly left an indelible mark on this year's FIA Formula 3 championship, securing two victories and seventh place in the overall standings despite a uniquely challenging journey. Entering the grid as one of three Red Bull-backed rookies, he was notably the only one without a prior championship title to his name.
His campaign nearly derailed before it even began when a winter racing accident in New Zealand forced him onto the sidelines for nearly four months of intense physical rehabilitation.
Rather than losing heart, the young Mexican channeled that adversity into an accomplished rookie campaign defined by mental fortitude and consistent progression with Campos Racing. According to Formula Scout, he finished the year widely regarded as one of the standout prospects within the Red Bull Junior Team pipeline.
"The season has been great," he said. "If you had told me before the season that these would have been the results, I would have signed for it."
"Obviously, there's a bunch of parts that we could have improved, but as a rookie I think I've made good steps over the season every race weekend, improving, having two wins, so I'm super happy with the season I've had."
Despite missing pre-season testing and the opening round in Melbourne to rebuild his conditioning, Rivera's resilient mindset allowed him to hit the ground running upon his return.
