As the 2027 MotoGP technical overhaul approaches—bringing 850cc engines, new aerodynamics, and Pirelli tyres—tensions are rising off the track. Enea Bastianini, set to move from KTM to Aprilia, has openly voiced his frustration regarding the current testing regulations, which he deems unfair for riders switching manufacturers.

The core issue is the disparity in track time. Riders like Marc Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer have already sampled the 850cc Ducati prototype at Brno and the Red Bull Ring. In contrast, riders changing teams, like Bastianini, must wait until the post-season test in Valencia next month to experience their new machinery. This creates a significant experience gap ahead of the official Sepang test next February.

"There hasn't been any progress," Bastianini stated regarding his proposal to allow riders switching brands to participate in the Sepang Shakedown test. "I think we need to keep working on it and try to discuss it. We also need to discuss this with the other riders."

Bastianini emphasized that this situation places riders switching teams at a distinct disadvantage. "In the end, we'll have very few laps available to get comfortable with the new bikes and go straight into racing under these conditions, while other riders will have had the chance to do a lot of testing—that's not fair," he insisted.

For comparison, Ducati test rider Nicolo Bulega has accumulated more data on the new package than any other full-time rider. This imbalance has become a major talking point in the paddock, as the 2027 season marks a crucial turning point for all manufacturers.

As of now, no official decision has been made by racing authorities regarding Bastianini's request. However, his plea adds to the growing list of logistical and technical challenges teams face before entering the highly anticipated 850cc era.
