Enea Bastianini has openly urged MotoGP to reconsider its pre-season testing regulations ahead of the sport's massive technical overhaul in 2027. The upcoming campaign will introduce brand-new 850cc motorcycles alongside a major switch in tyre suppliers, replacing Michelin with Pirelli and forcing an urgent adaptation phase for everyone on the grid.

Two in-season tests have already been conducted for the 850cc machines this year, but these sessions were not accessible to every rider due to widespread rider market changes and team line-up swaps ahead of 2027. This strict limitation has quickly turned into a major point of contention among competitors who feel disadvantaged by rigid testing caps.

The first official group test for the 2027 machinery is currently scheduled for a single day on Tuesday, December 1, immediately following the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix. The Tech3 KTM rider, who is set to switch manufacturers, firmly believes that a solitary day on track is nowhere near enough.

"We have just one day of testing after Valencia on the Tuesday, and it will be so important to understand in which direction you need to work, because to understand the tyre in just one day is very, very difficult," Bastianini explained regarding the tight schedule. He further emphasized that adapting the bike setup across the grid in just one day will prove an extreme challenge.

To combat this disadvantage, the Italian rider suggests that established riders who missed out on the initial development phases should be granted access to the January Sepang shakedown, a traditional three-day test normally reserved exclusively for test riders and rookies. In his view, having three to four days on track is an absolute necessity to properly grasp the new motorcycle.
