The floodlit atmosphere at the Lusail International Circuit witnessed another masterclass of determination from Enea Bastianini. Starting from ninth on the grid, the Italian rider delivered a phenomenal launch to break into the top five by the second lap, ultimately securing a hard-fought fifth-place finish at the chequered flag.
Riding for the Red Bull Tech3 squad, Bastianini spent a major portion of the race locked in a tactical battle behind fellow brand rider Pedro Acosta. However, persistent technical hurdles threatened to derail his pace throughout the grueling Grand Prix distance under the desert night sky.
"It was a very tough race," Bastianini explained after crossing the finish line roughly 6.9 seconds behind race winner Marc Marquez. "My start was great, I had a clean line and positioned myself well into turn one. I wanted to stay close and fight for the podium with Pedro and Marc, but in the middle phase of the race Marc just pulled away with an incredible pace."
Despite battling severe chattering issues through the left-hand corners—a persistent gremlin that plagued his machine all weekend—the 28-year-old rider kept his composure. He capitalized on his superior late-race management to slip past Acosta with four laps remaining while simultaneously defending brilliantly against charging rivals behind him.
"I had intense pressure from Ai Ogura right behind me for the entire race," Bastianini continued. "We suffered from heavy chattering in the left corners all weekend long, and it even got worse during the main race compared to the Sprint. Even so, finishing as the top KTM rider means we did a commendable job."
Heading into the final two rounds of the 2026 championship calendar in Portugal and Valencia, Bastianini sits tenth in the overall standings. He remains fully motivated to reward his crew with strong podium contention before closing out the season.
