Zak O'Sullivan is set to become the youngest driver on the Formula E grid next season after agreeing to join Envision as Maximilian Guenther's team-mate. The 21-year-old will replace Sebastien Buemi, who is retiring, and Joel Eriksson, who is leaving the team.
O'Sullivan, currently racing in Super Formula and Super GT in Japan, will end his two-year stint in Japan to race in the Gen4 era. The decision follows a successful test with Envision at Estoril, Portugal, last week.
During the two-day test, O'Sullivan joined Guenther and Jaguar drivers Antonio Felix da Costa and Stoffel Vandoorne. The presence of a large contingent of Envision engineers underlined the team's commitment to preparing their Gen4 car.
O'Sullivan has been part of the Envision family since the start of 2025, shortly after leaving Williams' junior programme. He took part in the rookie free practice session at the 2025 Jeddah E-Prix, where he was hit by Jamie Chadwick in the final moments. He also participated in rookie tests in Berlin, Miami, and Jarama, and attended several E-Prixs to learn the ropes.
Envision signed the experienced Guenther in July and will confirm their official driver line-up next month. The Silverstone-based team will also open a new extended headquarters, complete with a state-of-the-art Dynisma simulator.
The decision to change both drivers is a historic move in Envision's 12-season Formula E history. Team managing director Sylvain Filippi and chairman Franz Jung opted for a complete overhaul after the team slumped from champions in 2023 to eighth last season and seventh this year. Since Nick Cassidy left for Jaguar at the end of the first Gen3 season, Envision has won only one race, in Monaco 2025 with Buemi.
The technical relationship with Jaguar, which had cooled, is now close again, as seen in the intensive collaboration at the Estoril test. Buemi will remain as a consultant and occasionally test the Gen4 car, which could be a hidden weapon for the team.
