McLaren CEO Zak Brown has issued a strong hint about the potential timeframe of Gianpiero Lambiase’s arrival from Formula 1 rivals Red Bull. The Woking-based squad previously secured the services of Max Verstappen’s long-term race engineer in a bombshell move announced back in April.
Lambiase is set to assume the crucial role of Chief Racing Officer, and as per the initial announcement, he would join no later than 2028. The exact timing, therefore, of Lambiase’s arrival from Milton Keynes had been carrying a significant amount of ambiguity within the paddock.
However, speaking to Sky Sports F1, Brown appeared to be hinting that the transition will happen sooner rather than later. I am optimistic we will see him in papaya at some point next year, he stated clearly during the interview.
Brown added that he is very excited with everything ongoing at the factory, noting that the men and women behind the scenes have been doing a tremendous job. We have made a lot of gains this year from what was a very tough start, but I feel like we are on top of things now, he explained.
Praising his current lineup, Brown highlighted that both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are driving great amidst exciting times for the squad. The British-Italian engineer's upcoming switch had previously fueled massive rumors regarding a potential future move to McLaren for Verstappen himself amid performance frustrations.
