Yamaha has officially announced the appointment of Izan Guevara as a MotoGP rider for its satellite team, Pramac, for the 2027 season. The Spanish rider will replace Jack Miller, a long-time premier class veteran.
Guevara's name may not be as familiar to casual MotoGP fans as Miller's, but for those who follow the junior categories, this decision is hardly a surprise. Guevara is one of the most talented riders to emerge from the European Talent Cup and Moto3, with an impressive list of titles.
His career trajectory hit a snag when he moved up to Moto2 in 2023, hampered by a wrist injury and arm pump issues that made him uncompetitive. However, after recovering, Guevara showed steady progress, culminating in his first Moto2 victory in 2025.
That win earned him a test with Yamaha's MotoGP bike, and his performance convinced the Japanese factory to hand him a full-time seat. This move echoes Yamaha's successful strategy of signing Fabio Quartararo from a less-than-ideal situation and turning him into a world champion.
Under the leadership of Gino Borsoi, who previously worked with Guevara at Aspar, Yamaha hopes the young rider's adaptation will be smooth. Borsoi is trusted to guide Guevara's development as he did in the junior categories.
With raw talent, solid team support, and growing experience, Guevara is deemed ready for the MotoGP challenge. The question now is whether he can replicate Quartararo's success or follow the path of Darryn Binder, who struggled to adapt.
