The Superbike World Championship is preparing for an ambitious new era following the unveiling of the provisional 2027 calendar. This massive move marks the production-based racing series' inaugural visit to China, a strategic breakthrough widely believed to provide an extraordinary boost to the championship's global development.
This major decision to expand into the East Asian market stems from the crucial role played by Gregorio Lavilla as the WorldSBK executive director. In his remarks, he explained that adding a round in China is the culmination of years of industrial growth and the increasing involvement of Asian manufacturers across various racing classes.
The impressive footprint of Chinese manufacturers has been clearly demonstrated on the track. The World Supersport 300 title was previously claimed by Benat Fernandez aboard a Kove machine, while the Supersport grid has seen the active presence of QJ Motor and ZXMoto, alongside CFMoto's expanding superbike project.

The legendary Shanghai International Circuit, which previously hosted Formula 1 and 2000s-era MotoGP races, will serve as the official venue for the historic event. This Chinese round breaks the trend of holding only a single race outside of Europe over the past two seasons.
Furthermore, Gregorio Lavilla emphasized that this golden opportunity deserved full attention given China's powerful global economy. The arrival of new manufacturers and this geographical expansion are anticipated to drive immense popularity and bring numerous positive impacts to WorldSBK.
