Williams has confirmed that Luke Browning will be handed another chance to drive a Formula 1 car during the Italian Grand Prix weekend at Monza. The team's reserve driver will deputise for Alex Albon in FP1, marking his second such appearance this season after a brake issue prevented him from running in Barcelona.
Browning, who also races in the Japanese Super Formula championship with Kondo Racing, will balance his duties with Williams' academy programme. The session at the 'Temple of Speed' is seen as a valuable opportunity for him to gain more mileage in the FW48 and provide crucial feedback to the team.
In a statement, Browning expressed his excitement: "I'm thrilled to have another chance to drive an FP1 session with Atlassian Williams F1 Team. It's a great opportunity to get invaluable laps in the FW48 while building my understanding of the car and helping to bring useful data and feedback back to Grove." He added that every session teaches him something new and he aims to support the team in maximising their result at Monza.
Williams is hoping to capitalise on the power of their Mercedes engine to challenge for points, especially after a difficult weekend at Zandvoort where they struggled. The team's season has been tough, but the recent announcement of contract extensions for Albon and Carlos Sainz has provided a boost in morale.
The team sees Browning's outing as a chance to gather valuable data on the high-speed characteristics of the Monza circuit, which could aid in their development. For Browning, it's another step in his progression towards a potential full-time F1 seat in the future.
