Williams is preparing to mark a monumental milestone by celebrating 50 continuous years in Formula 1 competition. The iconic Grove-based squad will become only the third team in history to achieve five consecutive decades in the sport, following Ferrari and McLaren since entering the championship as Williams Grand Prix Engineering back in 1977. This golden anniversary celebration is meticulously designed to honor past glories while forging a fresh path forward on the grid with their driver lineup of Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz.

One of the ultimate highlights for devoted supporters will take place at Silverstone, where a fan-selected livery design will adorn the FW50 for a one-off appearance. Although the team has yet to disclose the exact mechanics of the selection process, it mirrors a similar engagement initiative previously used for their pre-season running. Silverstone holds a deeply emotional and significant chapter in Williams' storied history, having witnessed their maiden Grand Prix victory courtesy of Clay Regazzoni in 1979, followed by Jacques Villeneuve securing the organization's 100th win at the legendary British venue in 1997.

Beyond the racetrack, the grand celebrations will extend into central London with an immersive exhibition titled W50 Live, scheduled to run at 26 Leake Street in the Waterloo district from February 11 to 28, 2027. The ticketed event will showcase six historic machines, featuring the FW06—the very first car produced by the outfit—alongside championship-winning machinery associated with legendary names like Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, and Villeneuve. Furthermore, Juan Pablo Montoya's 2003 challenger, the FW25, and the FW38 in which Valtteri Bottas achieved a blistering 378 km/h top speed in 2016, will also take center stage for fans to admire.

In recognition of the half-century anniversary, the team has confirmed the car will be designated as the FW50, deliberately skipping the FW49 nomenclature. This mirrors a similar naming strategy deployed during their 40th anniversary when they jumped straight from the FW38 to the FW40. Alongside the on-track tributes and public exhibitions, Williams will release commemorative merchandise, including a specially themed Monopoly board game and an official historical book detailing their remarkable journey.

Williams Team Principal James Vowles emphasized that reaching the 50-year mark is an extraordinary feat, noting that over 100 different F1 teams have come and gone since Sir Frank Williams established the operation. "Our celebrations will reintroduce the heroes and stories that have forged Williams’ legacy to a new generation of fans, who will carry us forward to reach new heights," he stated. The upcoming anniversary will also serve as a poignant reminder that 2027 marks 30 years since Williams last clinched a world championship, capping a golden era between 1980 and 1997 that yielded nine constructors' titles, seven drivers' crowns, and 114 Grand Prix victories.
