The heavens opened violently over the Marina Bay Street Circuit just 15 minutes before the start of the Formula 1 sprint race. This dramatic weather disruption struck just six days after severe downpours heavily impacted proceedings elsewhere, throwing teams into an immediate state of high tension and urgent scrambling on the grid.
All 11 competing teams, who had been meticulously preparing their machines on the grid, were forced into frantic action as the rain quickly turned torrential. Mechanics rushed to erect protective awnings to keep the high-tech machinery, garage equipment, and drivers dry amidst the sudden and overwhelming deluge.
Just eight minutes after the chaos began, the FIA officially confirmed that the start would be delayed. Officials pointed directly to "a large amount of standing water around turns 2 and 3" as the primary safety hazard preventing the race from getting underway on schedule.

Although the heaviest downpour eventually eased, steady rain continued to fall over the circuit layout. A subsequent inspection tour of the track conducted by the medical car highlighted persistent issues regarding deep standing water lingering in specific, critical areas of the asphalt.
Another official track inspection lap was scheduled shortly after, following which the medical car reported that conditions had improved sufficiently. The FIA ultimately confirmed that the race would proceed with two formation laps behind the safety car to help clear the remaining water.
