A high-drama weekend at the prestigious Rallylegend event in San Marino took a terrifying turn when a classic Ford RS200 driven by renowned rallycross driver Liam Doran suddenly burst into flames. The shocking incident immediately captured the attention of thousands of spectators and service crews packed into the venue, creating a wave of panic as thick smoke and roaring fire engulfed the iconic machine.

The harrowing situation unfolded mid-run when the legendary Group B era vehicle developed a severe technical issue, triggering a sudden blaze underneath the bodywork. The vehicle carries deep sentimental value for the driver, given that Liam Doran's father, Pat Doran, famously competed with a similar Ford charger in the European Rallycross Championship back in the early 1990s, raising the stakes of the potential loss exponentially.

Miraculously, quick-thinking bystanders, marshals, and crew members rushed into action to battle the flames, managing to contain the inferno before total devastation struck the historic chassis. "Somehow, we managed to save the car. I don’t know what I would have done if we hadn’t managed it," an intensely relieved Liam Doran stated following the chaotic ordeal.

Reflecting on the dangerous moments, the driver expressed deep gratitude to those who put themselves on the line to avert a complete disaster. "A huge thank you to those guys who risked their own safety to help me. I also apologise for trying to get strangers to help me, even though the risk was clearly too great. I’m extremely relieved and happy that it didn’t end any worse," he concluded.

Despite the frightening episode, Rallylegend once again delivered its trademark spectacle, drawing a high-calibre entry list of 150 accepted competitors including prominent WRC figures. The star-studded lineup featured Dani Sordo piloting a gravel-spec Hyundai i20 N Rally1 alongside Alexandre Coria, alongside charging performances from Martins Sesks and Nikolay Gryazin.
