Luca Marini will join KTM satellite squad Tech3 from the 2027 season, the French team has officially announced. The Italian rider makes the switch after three years with the factory Honda outfit.
Marini, who has six seasons of MotoGP experience and two podiums to his name, becomes part of a significant shake-up as the series prepares for a new regulatory era, moving from 1000cc engines to 850cc units.
Tech3 Management Backs Signing
Tech3 boss Guenther Steiner expressed his delight at securing Marini. “Luca is a rider we have been watching closely, and we are very pleased to welcome him to Tech3 from 2027,” he said. “He brings a huge amount of experience, but also the right mentality and approach for what we are building here.”
Steiner highlighted that 2027 will be a big reset for MotoGP, underlining the importance of having a rider who can contribute to the team's progress in this new era. “Luca understands how to work at this level of the sport, whether it’s collaborating with the engineers, developing the bike or pushing forward in challenging circumstances,” he added.
Team manager Nicolas Goyon echoed the optimism. “We are very happy to have Luca joining us from 2027. He has already shown his ability to perform at the highest level, and his experience in MotoGP will be extremely valuable as we enter this new chapter,” he stated.
Goyon praised Marini's strong understanding of both the rider and technical sides of the sport. “We are confident that he will be an important part of our progress with KTM. We are looking forward to working with him and seeing what we can achieve together,” he added.
Tech3 is set for an all-new line-up in 2027. This week, Trackhouse Racing confirmed it had signed current Tech3 rider Enea Bastianini. Meanwhile, teammate Maverick Vinales is not expected to re-sign, and the other seat is rumoured to go to Australian rider Senna Agius.
MotoGP continues on August 28-30 at Aragon, with Marini set to begin a new chapter with Tech3 in the next era of the sport.
