After a five-year absence, the TA2 Racing Muscle Car Series is set to return to the iconic Phillip Island circuit. The series will headline the 36th edition of Island Magic, scheduled for November 20-22, 2026. This announcement ends speculation about the season finale location after initial plans for Calder Park fell through.
The confirmation was met with enthusiasm from organizers. Matt MacKelden, category manager for TA2 and Trans Am, expressed his excitement. "We're thrilled to confirm the TA2 Racing Muscle Car Series' place at Island Magic," he said. "It's the perfect event and venue to crown our 2026 series winner in a season that's had us on the edge of our seats throughout."
Phillip Island is known as one of Australia's fastest and most challenging circuits. With its fast, flowing corners, it's a fitting venue for muscle cars that often race door-to-door. MacKelden added, "We last visited The Island back in 2021. It's fast, flowing and our cars can easily run door-to-door, so we know we're in for a spectacular title decider that's going down to the wire."
However, the journey to the finale hasn't been smooth. The AASA-sanctioned Super Series collapsed earlier, canceling TA2's planned finale at Calder Park. Now, under Motorsport Australia sanction, the Super Series has been revived as the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series. Two rounds remain: starting at Winton this weekend, then moving to Sydney Motorsport Park in November for a single-day event. Interestingly, TA2 will not feature at Sydney, meaning their finale will truly be decided at Island Magic.
Island Magic is an annual event organized by the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club (PIARC). PIARC president Jose van den Dungen expressed his pride. "Island Magic is PIARC's crown jewel of our annual events, and locking in TA2 Racing Muscle Car Series for the 36th edition is a massive achievement for our entire club," he said. "The entire PIARC committee and community has worked tirelessly to organise and arrange this year's event, for more than 12 months now. Island Magic 36 will be a spectacle no motorsport enthusiast can miss."
In addition to TA2, the event will feature a range of national and state categories. National Sports Sedans, Radical Cup Australia, and Hyper Racer Australia will complete the national lineup. Meanwhile, state championships such as Group N Historic Touring Cars, Improved Production, Formula Vee, and the Victorian Sports Sedans Championship will also compete. This makes Island Magic 36 a comprehensive racing festival.
For fans unable to attend in person, all racing will be produced by Blend Line TV. Broadcast details will be confirmed closer to the event. The track schedule and ticketing information will be available via the PIARC website. With a combination of an iconic circuit, talented drivers, and a vibrant racing atmosphere, Island Magic 36 promises to be a thrilling season finale.
