Andrea Stella expressed deep frustration following the controversial collision between the two McLaren drivers during the sprint race at the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix. The team principal labeled the on-track contact as completely unacceptable under the team's operational guidelines.
The incident unfolded while Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were engaged in a fierce wheel-to-wheel battle. The team's internal protocol, often referred to as papaya rules, explicitly permits hard racing between teammates while strictly prohibiting any contact that could jeopardize their race outcomes.
Valuable points were squandered at a moment when Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was suffering from severe tyre wear. Both McLaren cars had a strong opportunity to overtake the red machine, but an aggressive and ill-fated maneuver ruined what could have been a solid points haul for the factory.

As a direct consequence of the crash, Oscar Piastri was forced into retirement, whereas Lando Norris barely salvaged a single point by crossing the finish line in eighth place. The missed opportunity dealt a heavy blow to their aspirations during this crucial phase of the championship.
Addressing the media after the qualifying session, Andrea Stella confirmed that the matter will be addressed firmly behind closed doors. The Italian engineer reiterated that team interests must always supersede individual ambitions without exception.
