As the 2026 Formula 1 season reaches its 16th round, fans are still waiting for their first wet-weather race under the current technical regulations. Safety concerns and tyre warm-up issues have dominated discussions, but Pierre Gasly believes the Sepang International Circuit offers the safest environment to test the waters.
The FIA has introduced several tweaks for 2026, including higher intermediate blanket temperatures and a ban on boost mode in the wet. However, drivers struggled with tyre temperatures during cold weather tests at Silverstone and Magny-Cours earlier in the year.
According to Autosport, Sepang's high ambient temperatures, abrasive asphalt, and elevation changes make it the ultimate venue for a wet grand prix. Pirelli chief engineer Simone Berra also echoed this sentiment, noting that Malaysia provides crucial data for wet-weather compound development.
