Timo Glock has revealed the emotional journey behind the return of one of the most iconic liveries in Formula 1 history at the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours.

The former Formula 1 driver is competing in the legendary endurance race with Doerr Motorsport aboard a McLaren 720S alongside Timo Scheider, Ben Doerr, and Marvin Kirchhofer.

The car immediately attracted major attention throughout the paddock due to its striking livery inspired by the Benetton machine driven by Michael Schumacher during his 1994 and 1995 Formula 1 world championship campaigns.

The special design was created in partnership with Bitburger, the German beverage company which previously served as a primary sponsor during Schumacher’s title-winning Benetton years.

From a historical perspective, the livery carries enormous significance for German motorsport because the Benetton-Schumacher era is widely viewed as one of the defining periods of modern Formula 1. Schumacher became a symbol of Germany’s rise to the top level of world motorsport.

"It’s incredibly emotional. I still remember sitting at home as a child watching Michael fight for world championships in that car," Glock told RacingNews365 at the Nürburgring.

According to Glock, the project has actually been in development since December last year alongside his long-term partner Bembel With Care, which maintains a cooperation agreement with Bitburger.

He explained that the original concept was to bring Bitburger back into motorsport after the company had been absent from international racing for more than 25 years.

"My friend said he knew how to bring Bitburger back into motorsport. That’s where the livery idea started," Glock explained.

However, Glock admitted the project was not easy to complete because the sponsor wanted to ensure the concept retained a strong German identity to properly reflect Schumacher and Benetton’s legacy.

Beyond serving as a tribute to Schumacher, the retro-inspired livery has also added to the nostalgic atmosphere surrounding the 2026 Nürburgring 24 Hours, which this year has attracted enormous global attention due to the presence of several major international motorsport names.
