Red Bull has done it again, this time off the track. Ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend, the Milton Keynes-based squad has transformed the RB8 – the car that clinched the 2012 Formula 1 world championship – into a train running on the Madrid Metro rails.

This is no ordinary spectacle. In a 10-minute YouTube video, Red Bull showcases the entire journey, from design and problem-solving stages to the moment the V8-powered machine finally rolls along the tracks. The project is a collaboration between the Red Bull Heritage Team and Spanish creative collective Andtonic.

Interestingly, the driver behind this wild stunt is no random person. Patrick Friesacher, a former Minardi driver with 11 F1 starts, took the wheel. He navigated a closed network of tracks, passing by the Estadio Metropolitano station and the Sacedal and Chamartin depots.

“It was an unbelievable experience,” said Friesacher. “I've been lucky enough to experience a lot with our Heritage team, but driving an F1 car on railway tracks was surreal. It's very cool to add Metro driver to the resume.”

The stunt evokes Top Gear vibes, but with Red Bull's signature flair – think zero-gravity pit stops, Max Verstappen skiing down an Austrian slope, or David Coulthard doing donuts on a 700-foot helipad in Dubai. Now, they've added another unique milestone to their portfolio.

This moment also serves as a reminder that F1 returns to Madrid this weekend for the first time since 1981, when Jarama last hosted the Spanish round before moving to Jerez and later Barcelona.
