Randle leads enduro test at halfway, Team 18 hits trouble

Amid the Enduro Cup preparations, Thomas Randle stamped his authority early. The Tickford Racing driver ended the opening session of the Ipswich test day on top, leaving a host of big names trailing behind.

Randle, sharing the car with Reuben Goodall, set his best time on lap 25 of 83. Goodall is gearing up for his maiden Enduro Cup campaign after a sprint wildcard debut in Townsville back in July.

Randle wasn't the only one turning heads. Brodie Kostecki lifted Dick Johnson Racing to second late in the session, just 0.0380s behind. The Blanchard Racing Team Mustangs also impressed, taking third and fifth, with the Craig Lowndes/Bayley Hall Team 18 wildcard Camaro slotting in between.

But the biggest story came from the Team 18 garage. Both cars – driven by Anton De Pasquale and David Reynolds/James Courtney – spent significant time in the pits. De Pasquale suffered a right-front suspension failure, while Reynolds and Courtney chased a steering issue. As a result, the two cars completed just 56 and 63 laps respectively, the fewest of any entry.

Brad Jones Racing, meanwhile, showed both pace and reliability. The Cam Hill/Brad Vaughan entry was seventh fastest and recorded the most laps of any car with 112. Notably, this was Vaughan's first taste of the Supra package, and all Toyotas ran the A-spec engine following Chaz Mostert's Sunday failure.

Grove Racing also had to change an engine after the same incident, leaving the Payne/Will Davison Mustang down in 20th. Sprint Cup winner Broc Feeney and new co-driver Nick Percat ended up eighth with 66 laps. The next session will focus on full pit stop practice, including refuelling.
