Mikko Heikkila's campaign at Rally Finland came to a dramatic halt following a heavy crash on the Paijala special stage. Piloting his Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, the Finnish driver ran off the road near the start of the stage, sending the vehicle rolling through the air after a misjudgment in high-speed conditions.
The push for recovery came after rain showers during the opening leg ruined his podium aspirations, prompting him to chase maximum stage times. Admitting to the error in a recent social media update, he explained that carrying slightly too much speed into a fast corner resulted in simply running out of room.
The structural damage sustained during the rollover was extensive, necessitating a major and time-consuming rebuild of the entire machine. More than two months after the incident occurred, the car has now been fully restored and brought back to working condition.

Demonstrating a stark contrast to factory WRC drivers whose extensive mechanical crews handle all garage duties, Mikko Heikkila actively participated in the rebuilding process alongside his technicians. This hands-on involvement significantly deepened his respect for professional mechanics while allowing him to acquire valuable technical expertise firsthand.
Looking ahead to the upcoming motorsport calendar, his competitive future remains under evaluation as discussions with partners and sponsors continue. Having secured a notable victory in the Swedish ERC event earlier this year, the former Finnish rally champion remains fully motivated to secure seats at both the WRC and ERC levels for the next season.
