Formula 2 championship leader Rafael Camara is set to make his Formula 1 debut with Haas in 2027. The 21-year-old Brazilian will step up to the premier class to line up alongside Oliver Bearman, taking over the seat from Esteban Ocon, whose departure from the American outfit was confirmed following two challenging campaigns.
Camara's meteoric rise through the junior single-seater ladder has seen him secure both the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship and the 2025 F3 crown in dominant fashion. Currently leading the F2 standings with Invicta Racing ahead of Nikola Tsolov, a potential F2 title would make him the only driver in history to win FRECA, F3, and F2 in consecutive seasons.
Reflecting on his multi-year agreement, Camara expressed immense pride in reaching the pinnacle of motorsport and acknowledged the pivotal role played by his supporters and management. "I’m very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver," said Camara. "It’s an important step in my career and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me."

The selection process saw Haas thoroughly evaluate multiple candidates through extensive Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) programmes, which also featured Leonardo Fornaroli and Ryo Hirakawa. Camara's deep ties with the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy further strengthened his candidacy, given the technical partnership between the Scuderia and the American squad.
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu lauded the incoming rookie's remarkable adaptability and raw performance under pressure, highlighting impressive displays during challenging qualifying sessions as proof of his immense potential for the upcoming years.
