Ferrari protege Rafael Camara is set to make his Formula 1 debut in 2027 after inking a multi-year agreement to race for the Haas squad. The decision follows a stellar outing during a Testing of Previous Cars session at Portimao in August, where the young Brazilian showcased extraordinary pace behind the wheel of the team's 2025-spec machine.
This standout performance allowed him to edge out strong contenders including McLaren reserve driver Leonardo Fornaroli, Toyota's Ryo Hirakawa, and former Alpine racer Jack Doohan for the coveted race seat. Camara's arrival directly replaces Esteban Ocon, whose two-year tenure with the organization fell short of expectations amid struggles to match teammate pace.
The 21-year-old rising star arrives with an incredible junior CV, having secured consecutive titles in the Formula Regional European Championship and Formula 3 before graduating to Formula 2 in 2026. Currently leading a fiercely contested F2 championship ahead of the final rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, he boasts three race victories and an impressive qualifying average of 2.54.

Despite encountering a few costly errors during feature weekends in Monaco and Montreal, team principal Ayao Komatsu emphasized that the raw speed and resilience shown by the youngster highlighted his immense natural potential. Komatsu praised how quickly the driver handled himself during the Portuguese private test without extensive preparation time.
Having been part of the Scuderia Ferrari driver academy since his karting days in 2021, Camara expressed profound gratitude to his supporters, family, and the Maranello-based organization for shaping his development. He now shifts his complete focus toward preparing thoroughly for the monumental challenge awaiting him in motorsport's premier category.
