Porsche Keeps Cupra Kiro for Formula E Gen4 Era

Porsche has confirmed that Cupra Kiro will remain a customer of its powertrain when Formula E enters the Gen4 era next season.

The Silverstone-based outfit became a Porsche customer team at the beginning of the Gen3 Evo era last season, although it used an older version of the German manufacturer’s powertrain.

For Gen4, Cupra Kiro will run Porsche’s latest package. The announcement makes Cupra Kiro the second customer team to reveal its powertrain supplier for next season.

Ahead of last weekend’s Shanghai E-Prix, Envision was confirmed to be staying with Jaguar for Gen4, while Andretti is set to switch from being a Porsche customer outfit to Nissan.

For Porsche, retaining Cupra Kiro provides technical continuity at the start of a new regulation cycle. For Cupra Kiro, access to Porsche’s latest Gen4 package gives the team a more current technical foundation than it had with the older powertrain specification last season.

Cupra Kiro has produced a solid campaign with four rounds remaining, although the results have been mixed across the two sides of the garage. Dan Ticktum has been strong over a single lap in qualifying and has reached the latter stages of the Duels several times.

In race conditions, however, rookie Pepe Marti has delivered the team’s biggest points returns and standout results. Podiums in Monaco and Sanya have strengthened his position as a key part of Cupra Kiro’s project heading into the Gen4 season.

With Porsche, Jaguar, and Nissan beginning to define the customer powertrain landscape for next season, Cupra Kiro’s decision provides early clarity in Formula E’s transition into a new technical era.
