Phillip Island Circuit Secures Future With Supercars Return in 2027

Although MotoGP and the WorldSBK championship are preparing to bid farewell over the next few months, the Phillip Island circuit will not be turned into a golf course as previously feared. The iconic Australian venue has officially been confirmed to host a major fixture on the Supercars calendar starting from 2027, securing a multi-year agreement spanning through to 2031.

Fears over the circuit's future intensified months ago when its designer, Bob Barnard, warned in an open letter that the historic venue was at risk of disappearing entirely. The decision by management to move premier motorcycle racing closer to city centers—relocating the Australian Grand Prix to Adelaide and World Superbike to The Bend Motorsport Park—left the iconic Victorian track facing an uncertain motorsport landscape.

However, relief has arrived for racing fans as Australia's premier touring car championship confirmed its comeback to the seaside venue. Supercars last raced at Phillip Island back in 2019, and the newly announced five-year deal aligns perfectly with the milestone celebration of the championship's 30th anniversary in 2027.

The circuit will also play a crucial role in deciding the championship by hosting a high-stakes 'Finals' round during the closing stage of the season. "As we celebrate 30 years of Supercars in 2027, it feels incredibly fitting to return to Phillip Island, a circuit that formed part of our championship in 1997," stated series organizers on Thursday, 15 October, highlighting the deep historical ties between the category and the circuit.

With this landmark agreement finalized, Phillip Island's status as a top-tier motorsport destination is firmly re-established. Fans can look forward to witnessing touring cars conquer the fast, sweeping corners of this legendary track once again, ensuring its rich racing heritage continues well into the future.
