Sepang International Circuit bore witness to incredible drama as Pedro Acosta secured a brilliant victory in the Malaysian MotoGP 2026 sprint race. The 10-lap dash delivered relentless tension from the moment the lights went out, especially when raindrops began to fall, forcing several riders to make crucial pit lane decisions.
Heartbreak struck Alex Marquez who had been dominant throughout the weekend. The BK8 Gresini Ducati rider suffered a costly crash while leading the race ahead of his brother, Marc Marquez. This costly mistake paved the way for Acosta to cruise cleanly to the front and bring his Red Bull KTM RC16 home to take maximum points.
Marc Marquez put in a strong shift for Ducati Lenovo to cross the finish line in second place, just 0.578 seconds adrift of the winner. Meanwhile, the final spot on the podium went to Aprilia Racing's Marco Bezzecchi, who maintained his composure as track conditions grew trickier.

The battle near the front also featured an impressive run from Trackhouse Aprilia's Ai Ogura, who claimed fourth place. Behind him, Fabio Di Giannantonio rounded out the top five. Defending champion Francesco Bagnaia had to settle for sixth position ahead of Brad Binder after a difficult afternoon.
The weekend in Sepang was further impacted by Aprilia's garage news as title contender Jorge Martin officially withdrew. Attempting to ride through a broken wrist, the Spaniard ultimately decided to pull out to focus on his recovery. "Jorge Martin will withdraw from the remainder of the Malaysian GP to continue his recovery from injury," read an Aprilia statement.
