Pedro Acosta secured a brilliant victory in a thrilling, rain-affected sprint race at the Sepang circuit. The KTM rider delivered a composed performance in tricky track conditions, capitalizing on a crucial crash from pole-sitter Alex Marquez while the Gresini Ducati rider was comfortably leading the ten-lap encounter.
The championship battle took a dramatic twist on Saturday morning when Jorge Martin was forced to withdraw due to injury. This unexpected absence left the door wide open for Marc Marquez to extend his championship advantage, although the multiple world champion had to fight hard throughout the race on a damp surface where he never looked fully comfortable.
The sprint got underway in fully dry conditions as Alex Marquez grabbed the holeshot from pole ahead of Marc Marquez approaching Turn 1. However, Marc Marquez was soon passed by Ai Ogura at Turn 1, before minor contact between the pair at Turn 2 forced the Ducati rider to sit up, allowing Acosta to slip through into the podium positions.

Spots of rain began to fall on lap two, prompting Pramac's Jack Miller to take an early gamble by pitting for wet-weather tires. Unfortunately, his team's garage was not ready, causing visible frustration in the pit lane. The race lead shifted dramatically when Alex Marquez crashed out at Turn 14 on lap three, handing the lead to Trackhouse Aprilia's Ogura ahead of Acosta and Marc Marquez.
As the rain intensified in the closing stages, Acosta made a decisive race-winning move on Ogura at Turn 9 on lap eight. Although Ogura fought back briefly at Turn 11, Acosta maintained superior drive out of the corner to retake first place. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez fought his way past Ogura into second, while Marco Bezzecchi charged through to complete the podium for Aprilia.
