Sami Pajari is on the verge of a third consecutive win in the WRC. After SS17 of Rally Paraguay, the Toyota driver leads by 24.1 seconds over Hyundai's Hayden Paddon. Following victories in Estonia and Finland, Pajari is confident but remains cautious about the remaining stages.
Pajari managed his pace throughout Saturday. “I watched the broadcast before the stage and saw several drivers losing as much as ten seconds. I didn't want that to happen. A lot can still go wrong tomorrow. It's great that we've been competitive and the car has been reliable. Even so, it's still too early to talk about anything,” he said carefully.
The fight for third place is also heating up. Elfyn Evans from Toyota is just 3.3 seconds ahead of Adrien Fourmaux from Hyundai after losing almost ten seconds in the short spectator stage. Fourmaux described the slippery conditions: “The grip could be good at times, and then suddenly there was none at all. It's difficult. In many places you trust the grip, and then suddenly it isn't there.” Evans simply said, “No idea. It was slippery.”
Behind them, Oliver Solberg moved up to fifth after passing Josh McErlean on Saturday's final stage. Local driver Diego Dominguez continues to lead WRC2 with a margin of over 20 seconds over Gus Greensmith. One short spectator stage remains on Saturday before the rally concludes on Sunday.
With a comfortable gap, Pajari has a strong chance to secure a hattrick. However, changing road conditions and pressure from Paddon could pose a final challenge. Fans are hoping for a celebration for the young Finn this weekend.
