Mitch Evans has officially joined Opel for the 2026-27 Formula E season, completing the German manufacturer's driver line-up alongside rookie Theo Pourchaire. Evans, a 16-time race winner in the series, will spearhead Opel's charge into the Gen4 era.
The move marks the end of Evans' decade-long association with Jaguar, where he set the record for most wins in team history. However, the world championship title eluded him, with several near-misses, including the 2023-24 season when he lost to Pascal Wehrlein.
Opel, Stellantis' second brand in Formula E following DS's departure, had waited until the end of the 2025-26 season to announce Evans' signing. This decision reflects the brand's ambitious new chapter in the electric series.
In his statement, Evans expressed pride in joining Opel. "After 10 years with a manufacturer, it was time for me to take on a fresh challenge. The leap to the GEN4 cars represents the perfect moment to start something new," he said.
He also emphasized that Opel is not just coming to compete but to win. "The world championship title clearly remains the big goal for me, in this respect I still have a score to settle in Formula E," Evans added.
With Evans' experience and Pourchaire's youth, Opel aims to be competitive from the outset. The 2026-27 season will be a critical test for the team, as they face established rivals like Porsche and Jaguar.
If successful, this partnership could become one of the most compelling stories in Formula E's Gen4 era, with Evans finally claiming the title that has so far remained out of reach.
