Izan Guevara has finally earned his ticket to the premier class. Yamaha confirmed on Thursday ahead of the Aragon GP that the 2022 Moto3 world champion will race for Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP from 2027, replacing Jack Miller, whose contract was not renewed.
This decision comes as no big surprise. Since joining the Pramac Yamaha family in Moto2 this season, Guevara was already tipped for promotion. Now, after a series of evaluations, the Japanese manufacturer has officially promoted him. This move is also the fruit of Yamaha's BLU CRU development program, designed to nurture young talents toward MotoGP.
Guevara's performance in Moto2 this season has been his main asset. Currently, the 22-year-old Spaniard sits second in the championship standings after the British GP. That achievement was enough to convince Yamaha that he is ready for the biggest challenge of his career.
Interestingly, Guevara's arrival coincides with major regulation changes in 2027. MotoGP engines will switch from 1000cc to 850cc, plus a new tire supplier will be introduced. Yamaha believes this is the perfect moment for a rookie to start fresh without having to chase a mature technical package.
Paolo Pavesio, Managing Director of Yamaha Motor Racing, called Guevara not just fast on track but also a growing professional. His work ethic and consistency were cited as proof that he deserves the promotion. Meanwhile, Pramac team boss Paolo Campinoti stressed that this promotion is the result of Guevara's hard work in Moto2.
For Guevara himself, this news feels like a dream come true. He admitted that he had long targeted a MotoGP seat and knows how difficult it is to reach this level. All the sacrifices, both from him and those around him, have finally paid off.
Despite that, Guevara insists his focus remains unchanged. He still wants to finish the Moto2 season as strongly as possible, including fighting for the world title. For him, the new chapter in MotoGP is a story he will embrace after his duties in the intermediate class are done.
