Norris and Piastri Clash in Singapore GP 2026: Stella Furious

The McLaren team principal has expressed severe disappointment after Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided during a dramatic wet sprint race at Formula 1's Singapore Grand Prix. On the final lap of the 20-lap encounter, a late lunge at Turn 5 triggered a costly tangle that eliminated one car and ruined the points haul for the other.

As conditions tested the grid to the absolute limit, Norris attempted an inside move on his teammate but failed to back out of the closing gap in time. The resulting impact struck the right-rear corner of Piastri's MCL40, sending both machines spinning. Piastri was forced out of the race with severe rear damage, while Norris salvaged a lonely eighth-place finish at the checkered flag.

Race stewards investigated the incident after the session concluded, ultimately deciding against penalties as both drivers contributed to the collision without one being predominantly to blame. Even so, the crash delivered a heavy repair bill and a major setback in the championship battle, forcing mechanics into a massive scramble ahead of the main Grand Prix proceedings.

Following strict internal guidelines established after previous run-ins, Team Principal Andrea Stella made his frustration crystal clear to the media. "Seeing two McLarens making contact like that is simply not acceptable," Stella told Sky. He emphasized that private discussions would follow to reiterate that no individual ego surpasses the collective mission of the Formula 1 operation.

Piastri acknowledged that Norris offered an apology immediately following the race, maintaining a diplomatic stance while speaking to reporters. "It just wasn't a situation that needed to happen, really. So, Lando apologised and we moved on," Piastri said. Norris echoed similar sentiments, admitting that both drivers misjudged the tricky closing stages of the wet sprint encounter.
