The Mercedes F1 Team gathered critical data for the remainder of the 2026 season following a demanding split-strategy evaluation at the Singapore Grand Prix. By running contrasting specifications at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the Brackley squad finally established a definitive development path for their W17 charger.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli was entrusted with the latest aerodynamic development package, while veteran teammate George Russell competed using an older specification to provide a baseline for direct comparison.
Mercedes Trackside Engineering Director Andrew Shovlin admitted that the high-stakes engineering gamble ultimately paid off. The intensive three-day track evaluation offered deep insights into finding the ideal operating window, resolving previous struggles with high-speed and low-speed balance.

Despite starting 19th due to a heavy grid penalty, Russell fought aggressively through the pack to secure championship points. Meanwhile, Antonelli maximized the new floor and wing assemblies, managed his tyre degradation expertly, and delivered a brilliant podium finish.
Shovlin confirmed that the data leaves no room for doubt moving forward. By the end of the race weekend, Antonelli's technical package proved definitively superior, giving the team maximum confidence heading into the final stretch of the championship.
