Constructors' world champions McLaren had to settle for a fourth-place finish with Lando Norris and fifth place for Oscar Piastri at the Singapore Grand Prix held at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. Following the race, Team Principal Andrea Stella shared his frank assessment regarding the current competitive landscape of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
The Italian engineer noted that Marina Bay presents a very specific track layout where the pecking order constantly shifts depending on circuit characteristics. Stella openly acknowledged the superiority of their main rivals, stating that Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen currently hold a distinct advantage under all conditions and possess the pace to top virtually any session.
Behind the leading pace, the battle remains wide open. Stella evaluated that Ferrari rightfully stood as the second-fastest team in Singapore, while his squad found themselves closely matched against Mercedes. Norris missed out on a podium finish after dropping a position while attempting an overtaking maneuver against Lewis Hamilton.

Technical hurdles also tested the team's resilience during the weekend. Stella confirmed that they faced an electrical issue and lost sensor signals, though fortunately, none of them critically impacted the car's reliability. The primary objective of bringing both cars home to score vital points was successfully achieved as the team looks ahead to upcoming rounds.
As the 2026 championship heads toward the final stretch with races in the USA, Mexico, and Brazil, the Woking-based outfit is preparing upgrades to fight back into the top three on pure pace. Read our in-depth analysis and catch all the latest championship updates right here.
