According to Motorsport Week, Max Verstappen snatched pole position for the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix Sprint Race with a mega lap in the final seconds, but an earlier move could see him in hot water with the stewards. The Dutchman left it late to take P1 from Charles Leclerc, nullifying Ferrari’s impressive showing up until that point, though an investigation for overtaking Lewis Hamilton under a waved yellow flag leaves his starting position in doubt.
The incident that triggered the potential penalty occurred earlier in the session when Sergio Perez tapped the wall at Turn 5's run-off area, prompting a red flag stoppage. During the track disruption, Hamilton complained that Verstappen had overtaken him under the yellow flags, with the reigning world champion acknowledging his mistake. George Russell stands to inherit pole position for the sprint race if the stewards ultimately decide to penalize the Red Bull driver.
Throughout the demanding sessions at the Marina Bay Circuit, Ferrari consistently showed front-running pace with both Leclerc and his teammate dictating the timing screens in the earlier segments. However, a frantic flurry of improvements in the dying seconds reshuffled the order, leaving rookie Arvid Lindblad narrowly missing out on progression during his first competitive weekend at the challenging venue.

As the garages scrambled to fit fresh Soft tires for the final showdown, Verstappen executed a crucial final run to eclipse the benchmark times set by his rivals. Despite the provisional success on track, the technical and sporting implications of the yellow-flag infringement remain under strict review by the FIA race control officials ahead of the sprint event.
Reflecting on the tense qualifying battle under the lights, Verstappen noted the high-pressure environment of the street circuit. "We had a dicey moment waiting in the garage for new tyres while everyone else was already bolting on their Softs, but we managed to hook up a strong final lap when it mattered most," Verstappen remarked regarding the dramatic pole-sitter fight.
