Max Verstappen Reveals Red Bull Aero Issue at 2026 Hungarian F1 GP

Max Verstappen revealed a worsening aerodynamic problem on his Red Bull Racing car after spinning during qualifying for the 2026 Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Verstappen lost the rear of the RB22 at the final corner during his last flying lap. The incident triggered yellow flags and left him starting the race from sixth position.

The Dutch driver admitted he was not in contention for pole position, but said the car became increasingly difficult to control throughout the 18 laps he completed during qualifying.

“The weekend in general has been difficult, but when instead of the tyre degrading, your car is, then you have a big problem,” Verstappen said.

Verstappen explained that the car’s ability to turn progressively deteriorated, while the rear became unstable on corner entry. The resulting increase in oversteer left the RB22 unable to provide consistent grip.

“The car just kept getting worse and worse lap after lap, so the more laps I did, the more difficult it was to put a lap together, and for tomorrow, we need to fix it because the car is just not drivable like this,” he said.

Verstappen added that the team detected a continuing loss of aerodynamic performance during the session. However, he believed the changing nature of the problem made it more difficult to identify and control ahead of the race at the Hungaroring.

Red Bull must now identify the source of the grip loss before the 2026 Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix, with Verstappen facing the task of recovering from the third row of the grid.
