The MotoGP action at the Mandalika circuit delivered immense drama as Marc Marquez triumphed in a chaotic sprint race during the 2026 season. Although the Noale factory riders entered the weekend as clear favorites, the Spanish world champion ultimately capitalized on early race incidents to seize control of the championship standings.
Tension peaked instantly when the lights went out as riders charged aggressively into the first corner. Pole-sitter Raul Fernandez faced intense pressure from Marco Bezzecchi, birthday boy Fabio di Giannantonio, and Marquez, who started from the fourth grid slot. Di Giannantonio's late braking forced Marquez off his racing line, inadvertently causing Bezzecchi to take evasive action and collide with Fernandez, eliminating both potential contenders from the race immediately.
Profiting from the opening lap mayhem, Jorge Martin quickly inherited the race lead. The rider wearing the number 89 machine steadily pulled away lap after lap, while Marquez maintained a solid second position in what initially shaped up to be a straightforward sprint.

However disaster struck on lap nine of 13 when Martin voluntarily surrendered the lead to Marquez. His crew had miscalculated the expected race pace, leading to critically low tire pressure that forced the championship leader to slow down and manage the situation, handing the victory initiative to his main rival.
In the closing stages, Marquez aboard his Ducati machine cruised smoothly to take the checkered flag and claim the championship lead. Trackhouse rider Ai Ogura delivered a stellar performance to finish second, with Di Giannantonio rounding out the podium in third place.
Martin ultimately crossed the line in fourth position, surrendering his championship lead to Marquez in the process. Fifth place went to Alex Marquez, finishing ahead of Pedro Acosta in sixth, who had served a long-lap penalty for exceeding track limits.
The remaining points-scoring positions were claimed by Fermin Aldeguer in seventh and Francesco Bagnaia in eighth. Meanwhile, Fabio Quartararo salvaged a solitary point for Yamaha by securing ninth place at the Mandalika finish line.
