Marc Marquez claimed he felt "free" mentally after winning the Misano MotoGP, which put him in a joint championship lead. The victory was the culmination of a series of mental steps he took after Aragon, where he bounced back from a tough Silverstone.

At Silverstone, Marquez could only manage seventh place due to strength issues in his right arm. However, the Aragon double header became a turning point. "It was a victory that allowed me to arrive at Misano with momentum and mental freedom," Marquez said after the race, as quoted by Crash.net.

Speaking to After the Flag, Marquez explained, "I felt free, relaxed, especially the mentality was flowing. I was very convinced of what I need to be fast. The speed was good from FP1, and from that point I just tried to ride in the best way possible."

Marquez also mentioned the medium tyre strategy in the Sprint as key to victory, and took advantage of Marco Bezzecchi's mistake in the main race. "We won by strategy, and today Marco did the mistake and we tried to take that benefit," he added.

When asked if this was the first time he'd felt "free" this season, Marquez replied, "Yes." He revealed that his mental steps began at Aragon, then were reinforced by a social media post highlighting the lack of muscle in his right arm. "That thing gives me the feeling I believe I need to fight for the championship," he said.

In the press conference, Marquez emphasised, "For me the most important is that I feel free. The victory from Aragon gave me a boost. What happened in the week after gave me the confidence, or the correct mental side, and now I feel free. With what I have, I will do my 100 per cent, I will take the maximum every weekend, or I will try – we can do mistakes, of course, we are humans."

With the Misano result, Marquez now shares the championship lead, signalling that this season's title fight is still wide open. The mental freedom he feels could be a decisive factor in the remainder of the season.
